DIN 2440 is the German industrial standard for steel tubes that specifies the technical requirements for medium-weight threaded steel tubes, also known as black and galvanized steel tubes or pipes. This standard was first published in 1962 and later revised in 1978.
The DIN 2440 standard covers a range of threaded steel tubes made from non-alloyed and low-alloyed steels, with diameters ranging from 20mm to 165mm and wall thicknesses ranging from 1.8mm to 6.3mm. These steel tubes are commonly used in the construction of pipelines and plumbing systems for conveying gas, air, water, and other fluids.
The technical requirements laid out in DIN 2440 include chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, and testing methods, among others. For example, the standard specifies the maximum permissible carbon content of the steel tubes, which should not exceed 0.17%, and sets out the minimum values for tensile strength and elongation.
In addition, DIN 2440 also includes requirements for the surface finish of the steel tubes, particularly for galvanized tubes, which should have a uniform zinc coating to protect against corrosion.
DIN 2440 is an important industrial standard for steel tubes used in plumbing and pipeline systems, providing technical specifications and quality requirements for threaded steel tubes made from non-alloyed and low-alloyed steels.
There are different forms to the pipes such as polished, annealed and pickled, bright and annealed types. The Carbon Steel DIN 2440 St 33-2 Seamless Tubes can come with different pipe ends such as plain end, beveled end, threaded pipe and tube types. The applications are in oil, gas, fluid transfer lines and in heat exchanger and boiler components. The DIN 2440 Grade St 33-2 Round Pipes are the most used ones where the other forms such as square pipes are available. The chemical composition of the pipes contains carbon, silicon, manganese, chromium, nickel and molybdenum. The DIN 2440 Steel Pipes have 185MPa minimum yield strength and 310MPa minimum tensile strength. DIN 2440 Threaded Steel Tubes have internal threads that permit easy and speedy, leakproof connections. Threaded components like the din 2440 st 35 pipes are used in areas that cannot be welded. In some industries, the use of welding to connect a tube to fittings or flanges could cause undesirable flares or explosions, which are hazardous to both the application and the environment. The internal threads in the din 2440 Steel pipe aid in easy mounting or connectivity to a piping system without causing any accidents. Therefore, several industries, including the oil and gas industries may use these din 2440 st33 pipes for connectivity. Another reason that many businesses have carbon steel pipes in grade din 2440 st 33.2 as a part of their piping system is that they have good hardness properties. To improve these properties, often buyers place in an order for carburization or nitriding to be carried out on the carbon steel din 2440 tube. Both these processes ensure that the tubes become hard without becoming brittle.
